Recent regulatory changes

In 2005, a new rule for MotoGP was introduced the flag-to-flag. Previously, if a race starts with a start in the dry circuit conditions and the rain falls, the leading drivers can raise a hand to stop the race, so also with the officials to red flag stopped the race, then the race begins again with the use of wet tires. Now if the rain falls during the race there is no longer a red flag, riders went straight to the pit to change a tire according to team policy.

    * In 2007, the MotoGP class reduced the capacity of the engine, a 800cc.
    * In the year 2010, imposed restrictions on the MotoGP class machines for a season six engine.
    * In 2010, the 250cc class moto2 class is replaced with a prototype 4 stroke 600cc engine.

Year 2010 Up 1000 cc from 800 cc

MotoGP race event will be increased to 1000 cc from 800 cc in the 2012 season. This decision was taken International Motor Racing Federation (FIM) after meeting F1 rights holder, Drona, in Switzerland, Friday (12/11/2009). "For the first phase, next year we'll make some new rules are more complete, but essentially in 2012 would be a new era of MotoGP," said FIM President Vito Ippolito. Category of MotoGP actually had increased from 500 cc to 990 cc in 2002. But in 2007, this category was further reduced to 800 cc with saving reasons. "Manufacturers want the Moto GP 1000 cc engine. So, this is what will we make it happen, "said Ippolito. "Formula 800 cc can not be applied because of engine power is almost the same (with a 990 cc engine)," said Ippolito.

President of the International Auto Racing Federation (FIM) Vito Ippolito agreed with the idea MotoGP engine capacity to 1000 cc. He once argued that it is (1.000cc) will lead to conflict with the World Superbike Championship.

Actually, the idea of using this 1.000cc machine already brought up by CEO Drona (MotoGP rights holders), Carmelo Ezpeleta, at the beginning of this year. He hoped, 1,000 cc engine was brought into use in 2012. Modified versions of this motor seems to be adopted so long as eligible machinery production. However, it is not mandatory.

Ippolito was sure, the transition to the 1000 cc engine would be greeted with a very well by the MotoGP teams. Section, changes from 990 cc to 800 cc in 2007 failed to deliver on expectations for cost savings or reduce the motor speed during cornering. "The team wanted a manufacturer Moto 1000 cc engine, so now is the way," said Ippolito to Motosprint. "Formula 800 cc not running well because of strength approximately the same as 990 cc, even more high-speed cornering. In addition, the costs are also increasing. "

Suddenly, the promoter Superbike Motor Sports infront directly react to the first idea about MotoGP 1000 cc Ezpeleta this summer, although Ippolito said that there will still be a clear separation between the two series. According to Ippolito, the MotoGP motorcycle race still using the machine prototype. "The difference is about the homologation rules, homologation of a motorcycle can or not," explains Ippolito. "The discussion begins and ends here. No problem, if the engine capacity of 1000, 1200 or 750 cc. MotoGP could not dihomologasi. Therefore, for these distinctions clear, then the engine problem could not be a problem, "he added. Ippolito also believe, MotoGP and Superbike has a different fan. Thus, any regulations issued, the fans are happy to welcome him.

"We are satisfied with these two series because they bring together the wishes of the fans," said Ippolito. "SBK offers the opportunity to race and shows the brilliance for those who are less talented, while the GP is a comprehensive picture of motor racing," he said. "Therefore, we need both. However, the important thing to be grasped is the difference between the two. People who watch the Supersport race bike just watch yourself. The MotoGP is different because the people who watch want to see something else. "
